NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Library patrons took an adventure down the Amazon River on July 27 at Main Street Library. The program, Rainbow Puppets: Amazon Adventures program, was part of the Newport News Public Library System’s Summer Reading Program.
Presented by Rainbow Puppets, the hour-long program included characters such as Monte, the waxy tree frog; Eel-lo, the electric eel; King, the golden lion tamarin; a toucan; a cayman crocodile; and a large glittery catfish.
The audience of 71 adults and children of all ages enjoyed singing and dancing with Monte, the host, and the other puppets.
“I really loved the dancing, and the way they really made it seemed real,” said participant Angel Brooks, age 10.
The performance was presented by puppeteers Michael Singleton and James Cooper. Helping the production come together behind the scenes were Tony Gabriele and Kathie Davis.
The Newport News Public Library System’s Summer Reading Program is free and open to children, teens and adults. It includes reading incentives and activities and continues through July 31. It is generously supported by the Friends of the Newport News Public Library System, Capt. D’s, Fazoli’s, McDonald’s, Golden Corral, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Shoney’s, and the Library of Virginia.
