2011 Youth Leadership Applications Available

Newport News youth who want to make a difference in their community and participate in decision-making processes, have the opportunity to participate in “Youth in Governance.”

Youth Leadership applications are available for Boards and Commissions within Newport News that provide the opportunity for youth participation. Applicants must be Newport News residents and high school students.

The Newport News Human Rights Commission, Arts Commission, Library Board of Trustees, and the Commission on Youth are appointed by City Council. Applicants for other Boards and Commissions such as the Mayor’s Youth Commission and the Police Youth Advisory Board will undergo an interview process.

The 2011 Youth Leadership Applications are available from the Newport News Department of Human Services Youth Development Office and the Partnership for Youth by contacting Shawn O’Keefe at 597-2801 or by email at sokeefe@nngov.com. Applications are also available from the Activity Directors at Newport News Public High Schools.

Application deadline – February 4th 2011.
