This year marks the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the Newport News Mayor’s Committee on Disabilities is presenting the “DIVERSabilities Forum: Change Happens Beyond the Conversation.”  This free event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 29 at the Brittingham-Midtown Community Center located at 570 McLawhorne Drive.  The forum will feature a panel discussion that will cover topics such as accessibility, transportation, and education, and will also include vendors, entertainment, and refreshments.

“Nothing can become more disabling than a community not embracing the possibilities within its DIVERSE abilities. With a greater understanding comes greater citizenship. Together we must become the agents of change,” stated Lawrence Gholson, Chair of the Newport News Mayor’s Committee on Disabilities.

For more information on the forum, citizens can contact Sherry Graham at (757) 926-8587 or via email at sgraham@nngov.com.
