Newport News Police Department Foundation Fund

Questions & Answers Overview

1. What is the purpose of the NNPD Foundation Fund?

The Fund was created to promote excellence in policing to the Newport News Police Department by providing resources not readily available from traditional funding sources.

The Fund’s primary focus will support worthwhile professional development, training, equipment, wellness and morale, and public relations activities connected with the police department and its staff.  All financial support received for the Fund will support the police department’s mission to safely and securely maintain the City’s law enforcement obligations.  The number one goal is reducing crime and providing a safe environment for the citizens of Newport News.

2.  How is the NNPD Foundation Fund Administered?

The Peninsula Community Foundation of Virginia, Inc., will administer the Fund.  The Peninsula Community Foundation of Virginia, Inc., is a tax-exempt 501(c) (3) public charity which is overseen by a volunteer board of directors.

A group of individuals who are NOT police department staff will be selected to serve as the Board of Directors.  An internal NNPD committee will screen requests prior to submitting the application to the Board.  The Board will review the request and, if approved, recommend the grant disbursement from the Fund administrator based upon the established guidelines.

The Fund is supported by unsolicited donations, fund-raising activities, and from directed public donations to the Fund.
