Police Memorial

Located in front of the city hall building in downtown Newport News, Virginia, the Memorial was dedicated May 30, 1997.  This beautiful structure was a three-year community effort and it is a symbol of our remembrance of those officers that have given service. The bronze figurines of the Memorial were created by Neil Brodin.

The Newport News Police Department observes National Police Week and National Peace Officers Memorial Day in May of each year.  During this time the Newport News Police Department honors those officers that have made the ultimate sacrifice as well as those who continue to work diligently everyday to protect the communities they serve.

As a part of the memorial service, there is a procession of law enforcement personnel from the rear parking lot of Police Headquarters to the Police/Fire Memorial at City Hall. The procession is then followed by a wreath-laying at the monument and a gun salute. Chief Fox invites all sworn and civilian personnel, as well as anyone from the community, to join the Department’s Honor Guard and Pipe and Drum Corps in the procession and show their support for Law Enforcement.
