The Community Programs Coordinator serves as a department liaison to various community groups. The unit is responsible for coordinating existing programs, developing and fostering partnerships to include new programs to assist the police department in fulfilling its Community Policing initiative through crime prevention, community service functions, and raising public awareness.

Neighborhood Watch Coalition
The Neighborhood Watch Coalition is the governing body of all Newport News Neighborhood Watch groups. The Neighborhood Watch Coalition was established in 1983 to provide a broader range of services to individual Neighborhood Watch groups such as training, crime prevention materials, and also assist in promoting principles of crime prevention.
Neighborhood Watch Coalition meetings are held the 2nd Monday of each month at 7:00 pm at Police Headquarters located at 9710 Jefferson Avenue. Please contact the Special Operations Division at telephone 757-928-4295 with any questions pertaining to the Neighborhood Watch Coalition.
