Unanimous
COA-06-169
6702 Huntington Avenue. James and Deidre Wells.
This application was for the installation of an 8’x12’ deck in the rear of the house. Mr. James Wells presented the application to the Board. Mr. Shook reviewed the guideline sections pertinent to the application and determined that application was within the stated perimeters.
Mr. Wells stated that the primary motivation for the deck was to provide an easier access to the rear door. The width was expanded several feet beyond the minimum required to allow a functional utility of the space. The Board concurred with this proposal. Mr. Whittaker asked Mr. Wells if he had considered using Trex, or a similar synthetic decking material, instead of wood. Mr. Wells responded that he had not, but would look into that option. Mr. Whittaker reiterated that Mr. Wells was free to use the material of his choosing.
Ms. Dahlen made a motion to approve the application as submitted.
Mr. Whittaker provided a second.
The motion was unanimously approved.
COA-06-168
323 62nd Street. Janice Parker.
Ms. Parker presented her application for the installation of white vinyl double-hung windows, and for the installation of black shutters. She noted that her application had not changed since her November discussion with the Board regarding window replacement. Mr. Shook reviewed the guideline sections pertinent to the application and determined that application was within the stated perimeters.
Ms. Parker stated that some of the work had been started and brought photographs of the installed windows. She noted that the contractor would be installing internal muntins later. The Board agreed that the windows, when the muntins are installed, would be acceptable.
Ms. Parker asked for guidance regarding the removal of an a/c unit from a sidewall opening, and installing a window in the opening. The consensus opinion of the applicant and Board was that the installation of a solid pane thermal window would be the best option.
