Newport News has 36 parks located throughout the City. They vary in size from 0.3 acres to over 8,000 acres. At 8,065 acres Newport News Park is not only the largest in the City, but is the second largest municipal park in the country.

Newport News residents can apply for a free garden plot in our Newport News Community Garden. See here for information, rules, and an application.
FLORAL GARDENS- There are several floral gardens located throughout Newport News that offer the perfect backdrop for weddings and other ceremonies. A rose garden is in Huntington Park, an azalea garden in Deer Park and the Japanese Peace Garden is in Newport News Park. For more information, call 926-1400 or 886-7912.
PLAYGROUNDS- Newport News has playgrounds in 16 parks across the City. The largest of these playgrounds include: the 14,000 square foot Fort Fun at Huntington Park; designed to be 70% accessible for children with disabilities is the Boundless Playground at Deer Park; the 30,000 square foot community playground at Riverview Farm Park is Fantasy Farm Playground and 4 large structure playgrounds are located in Newport News Park. SKATE PARK- A 3,100 square foot, modular skate park is located inside Riverview Farm Park. It consists of 2 quarter pipes, 2 bank ramps, 2 grind rails and 2 wedge flats. Registration and a permit sticker are required. All users must wear a registration sticker on their helmet while in the skate park. Riverview Farm Park Sledding Hill Rules:
* This area is not supervised- use hill at your own risk.
* Open from sunrise to sunset only when covered with snow
* No bicycles allowed on hill
* Be alert to obstacles under the snow
* Children must have adult supervision
* Stay out of the way of those sledding down hill
* Construction of ramps and jumps is prohibited
* Sled in a sitting position only
* No "surfing", skiing, or snowboarding
* Garbage bags, cardboard boxes, and othe r disposable "sleds" should not be used on the hill
