Over 3000 Instructional Classes are offered each quarter (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer). For a complete listing of all classes, call (757) 926-1400 or pick up a copy of the semi-annual Newport News Parks and Recreation Tabloid at a Newport News Public Library, recreation facility, or at the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism office at 700 Town Center Drive, Suite 320. NEW WAY TO REGISTER: We are pleased to announce that you may now register for classes on-line. For information on how to register on-line, click here for ActiveNet registration information. Additional classes that have been added after the print deadline for the tabloid will be posted on the ActiveNet site.

Classes and programs are held at various locations throughout the city to include:

Riverview Gymnastics Center (125 City Farm Rd)
Midtown Community Center (570 McLawhorne Drive)
Courthouse Way Recreation Center (14302 Old Courthouse Way)
Various Elementary schools throughout the city
There are also several businesses that partner with us to offer classes

The Flipateers are a competitive and show team made up of gymnasts who are 6 years old and older. They compete throughout the state and perform at local events. Try outs are held each year in June. Superkids are a group of 4 ½ - 6yr old gymnasts. They are a show team that perform at community events and parades. Try outs are held each year in June. City Arts Dance Company is a group of dancers ages 6-15. They compete and perform in ballet, tap and jazz. Try outs are held each year in August.

INCLEMENT WEATER POLICY:

If Newport News Public Schools are closed, then Instructional Classes are canceled for that day. If it is announced that the City of Newport News City Hall/Offices are closed, then ALL Parks and Recreation programs are canceled for that day.
