Saltwater Fishing

Saltwater fishing piers are located at Denbigh Park (open 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily), Peterson's Yacht Basin (open 24 hours) and Huntington Park (open 24 hours). Saltwater Fishing License is required.

Freshwater Fishing

Freshwater fishing is available sunrise to sunset at Lee Hall and Harwood’s Mill Reservoirs. SHORELINE FISHING requires a Parks Division Shoreline Fishing Permit in addition to the VA freshwater fishing license. Virginia fishing licenses are available for purchase at the Newport News Park Campsite Office. Please call 888-3333 for more information.

Jon boats for fishing are available for rental year round at the Newport News Park Campsite Office, and on weekends and holidays during the summer months at Lee Hall Fishing Area and the Harwood’s Mill concession office.

Fishermen may also launch privately owned boats into the city’s reservoirs by purchasing a daily or annual Launch Permit. No gas motors are permitted, and a valid Virginia Freshwater Fishing license is required.

Lee Hall Reservoir – boat rentals, private launch, and shoreline/pier fishing permits are available weekdays at the Newport News Park Campsite Office. Lee Hall Fishing Area concession is open 7:00 a.m. to sunset on weekends and holidays, May through September.

Harwood’s Mill – private launch and shoreline fishing permits are available weekdays at the Newport News Park Campsite Office. Harwood’s Mill Fishing Area concession is open 7:00 a.m. to sunset on weekends and holidays, May through October.
