Victory Landing Park
Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism will celebrate the July 4th holiday with its 4th of July Stars in the Sky event on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Victory Landing Park ( 23 rd St. at the James River ).
At 7:00 p.m., the event begins with free children's rides (giant slides, moon bounces, obstacle courses) and free balloon sculpting. Patriotic costumed characters will give way hand-held American flags while supplies last. Food vendors will be on site selling a variety of items including funnel cakes, sno cones, and barbecue. The Jimmy Jones Band will perform popular and patriotic selections from 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. followed by a spectacular fireworks show choreographed to music at 9:30 p.m. over the James River .
Admission and parking are free. Directions: Take I-64 to I-664S, take Exit 6 to 26th St. , turn left onto Huntington Avenue., turn right onto 23 rd St. ; free parking available at the Newport News City Hall parking lot and designated non-restricted public parking spaces in the Downtown area. Parking:
Free parking at the City Hall parking lot and non-restricted lots in the Downtown area. Handicapped parking is located in the lot at 23 rd Street & West Avenue and designated spaces throughout the Downtown area.
Reminders:
-No alcohol allowed in event area
-Food and soft drinks available for purchase
-For your pets' protection, please leave them at home
-No bicycles, skateboards or radios permitted in the event area
