Newport News’ July 4th fireworks are rescheduled for Tuesday, July 5 at 9:00 p.m. at Victory Landing Park. If weather conditions are threatening, the fireworks time may be adjusted (earlier or later as needed). If we are unable to have the fireworks show on July 5, the show will not be rescheduled again.

Admission and parking are free. Directions: Take I-64 to I-664S, take Exit 6 to 26th St., turn left onto Huntington Avenue., turn right onto 23rd St.; free parking available at the Newport News City Hall parking lot and designated non-restricted public parking spaces in the Downtown area. No pets, bicycles, alcohol, skateboards, or radios permitted in the event area. For more information, call 926-1400


Newport News 4th of July Stars in the Sky

Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism will celebrate the July 4th holiday with its “4th of July Stars in the Sky” event on Monday, July 4, 2011 at Victory Landing Park (end of 23rd St. at the James River.). 

At 7:00 p.m., the event begins with free children’s rides (giant slides, moon bounces, obstacle courses). Food vendors will be on site selling a variety of items including funnel cakes, seafood, hot dogs, hamburgers, and sno cones. Entertainment will be provided by A Touch of Spice (R & B/Top 40, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., 8:30 - 9:30 p.m.) and Jeremiah Hairston (Patriotic and Popular Favorites, 8:00 – 8:30 p.m.) followed by a spectacular fireworks show set to music at 9:30 p.m. over the James River by the internationally award–winning fireworks company Pyrotecnico. The first 2,000 people in attendance will receive a free light-up pom-pom.

The 4th of July Stars in the Sky is sponsored by Newport News Shipbuilding, a Division of Huntington-Ingalls Industries; the Daily Press, BOB FM, WTAR, and WNIS.

From I-64 East & West
-Take the I-664 Exit
-Take Exit 6 to 26th Street
-Turn left onto Huntington Ave.
-Turn right onto 23rd St.
-Victory Landing Park is at the end of 23rd St. at the James River

Parking:
Free parking at the City Hall parking lot and non-restricted lots in the Downtown area. Handicapped parking is located in the lot at 23rd Street & West Avenue and designated spaces throughout the Downtown area.

Reminders:
-No alcohol allowed in event area; coolers/picnic baskets are permitted
-Bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating
-Food and soft drinks available for purchase
-No pets permitted in the festival area
-No bicycles, skateboards or radios permitted in the festival area
