Our mission:

The primary mission of the Newport News Government Access Cable Television Channel is to provide information concerning city programs and services, public policy issues, special events, and other activities to the cable subscriber citizens of Newport News. Within its resource limits, non-cablecast video production services to City departments and agencies will be provided. Engineering support is also an integral part of this division for the I-Net head-end and associated user departments.

Our responsibilities:

  • To promote citizen understanding and participation in decision-making by cable casting the meetings of elected and key appointed boards and commissions.
  • To highlight local government events and activities in the community.
  • To stimulate increased citizen involvement through the systematic production of informational programs that address government policies, procedures, actions, quality of life issues, special issues, and special events.
  • To plan and implement activities that will promote increased viewer ship of the government access channel which is key to fulfilling the informational needs of citizens through the increasing use of the television medium.
  • To identify critical issues and produce programming that can be effectively, and in a timely manner, addressed through government channel programming.
