Public Computer Labs
The Newport News Public Library System provides public computers at each of its four branches -Grissom, Main Street, Pearl Bailey, and West Ave.
The Newport News Public Library System provides public computers at each of its four branches - Grissom, Main Street, Pearl Bailey, and West Ave. These computers have the following software installed on each machine:
- Microsoft Office 2007, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
- Windows XP
- Typing Program
Printers are also available at all libraries. Black and white printing is .15 per page and color printing is .50 per page.
In order to use a public computer at one of our branches, you need to have a Newport News library card in good standing, establish a PIN/password number with a library staff member, and agree to abide the Acceptable Use Policy for Internet Access. There is one computer at each branch that can be reserved up to one week in advance. Reservation can be made by phone or in person. If you are under the age of 18, a parent/legal guardian will need to sign a form giving you permission to use the computer. Parents/legal guardians can also designate if the child can have filtered or unfiltered Internet access on this form.
Visitor cards are available for out-of-state visitors. Cards are only good for the day and cost $2.00.
