Computer Class Descriptions

Course descriptions of the various classes taught by the library system.

Basic Keyboarding

Four-session course designed to teach students keyboarding basics. The course will offer hands on experience using the keyboard, monitor, computer, and printer. Students will learn touch key typing, basic service keys, and the home row letter keys from this course.

Beginning Access

Four-session course designed to teach students how to create databases. Data structure and data organization will be discussed. Prerequisite: Introduction to Windows.  

Beginning Access Express

Two-session course designed to teach students how to create databases. Data structure and data organization will be discussed. Prerequisite: Introduction to Windows. 

Beginning Excel 
 

Four-session course designed to teach students how to use Excel. Student will learn how to create basic worksheets. 

Beginning Excel Express 

Two-session course designed to teach students how to use Excel. Student will learn how to create basic worksheets. 

Beginning PowerPoint

Four-session course designed to teach students how to use PowerPoint. Students will learn how to complete computerized presentations. Prerequisite: Introduction to Windows. 

Beginning PowerPoint Express

Two-session course designed to teach students how to use PowerPoint. Students will learn how to complete basic computerized presentations. 

Beginning Publisher

Four-session course designed to introduce the student to desktop publishing using Publisher. Students learn basic typesetting and page layout techniques.  

Beginning Publisher Express

Two-session course designed to introduce the student to desktop publishing using Publisher. Students learn basic typesetting and page layout techniques. 

Beginning Word

Four-session course designed to teach students how to use Word. Student will learn how to create, save, print and format basic documents. 

Beginning Word Express

Two-session course designed to teach students how to use Word. Student will learn how to create basic documents. 

Computer Basics

Four-session course designed to teach computer basics. This course will include an overview of the computer, light typing, mouse navigation, and some word processing. 

Computer Basics Express

Two-session course designed to teach computer basics. This course will include an overview of the computer, light typing, mouse navigation, and some word processing. 

Computer Basics for Senior Citizens 

Three-session course designed to teach computer basics to senior citizens. This course will include an overview of the computer, light typing, mouse navigation, and some word processing. It is designed for individuals who have never used a computer. No prior experience needed. 

Computer Buying Basics

One session course teaching students to interpret computer ads and determine hardware and software needs. 

Creating Charts & Graphs

One session course teaching students to create charts for school and business. 

Creative Cards

One session course designed to teach students how to create greeting cards for different occasions using Microsoft Publisher. 

Email Basics Express

Two-session course designed to teach e-mail techniques. This course will cover attaching documents to email messages and setting up and using the online address book.  

How to Use Facebook

Two-session training course designed to teach students how to use the social media site known as Facebook. Students will learn how to create and edit Facebook Profiles.

 
How to Use MySpace

Two-session course designed to teach students how to use the social media site known as MySpace.   Students will learn how to create and edit MySpace profiles.
 
How to Use a USB Memory Stick

One session class instructing students on how to connect, save, and safely disconnect memory sticks from the computer. Students should have their own USB Memory Sticks.
 
How to Use YouTube

Two-session course designed to teach students how to use the social media site known as YouTube. Students will learn how to create and edit YouTube Profiles.

Intermediate Computer Express

Two-session course designed to teach students to use Windows for file management, multi-tasking functions, and clipboard use.  Working with the desktop will be explored. 

Intermediate Excel 

Four-session course designed to teach students Microsoft Excel skills beyond basic worksheet functions and creation. Students will receive hands-on, in-depth experience using MS Excel.
 
Intermediate Excel Express

Two-session designed to teach students Microsoft Excel skills beyond basic worksheet functions and creation. Students will receive hands-on, in-depth experience using MS Excel.
 
Intermediate Word 

Four-session course designed to teach students advanced document formatting. Prerequisite: Beginning Word.
 
Intermediate Word Express

Two-session course designed to teach students advanced document formatting. Prerequisite: Beginning Word.

Internet Safety

One session course covering topics related to internet safety, protecting one’s privacy, and wireless networking safety.

Internet Searching

One session designed to teach students how to use search engines and searching techniques.
 
Introduction to Open Source Programs

One session course designed to give students basic knowledge of open source applications and programs. A USB Flash drive is recommended.   
 
Introduction to Social Media Websites

One session course designed to teach students fundamentals of social networking websites. Students will get an overview of how to use popular social networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook, YouTube.
 
Online Job Searching

One session course covering creating online resumes and online job applications. Prerequisite: Basic Internet Skills.

 
Using the Internet 

Four-session course designed to teach students how to use the Internet. Students will learn searching techniques, how to use browsers/search engines, how to send and receive e-mail, and much more.
 
Using the Internet Express

Two-session course designed to teach students how to use the Internet. Students will learn searching techniques, how to use browsers/search engines, and much more.

 
Using Online Calendars

Two-session course designed to teach students how to use online email calendars. Students will learn to schedule events, link to other people’s schedules, and much more.
