Adults and families can learn how to protect their privacy in the digital age, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Saturday, June 18, at Main Street Library.

The event includes a shredding truck, a panel discussion including experts on various aspects of privacy, and free booklets and other printed information. Residents may bring papers to the Main Street Library parking lot to be shredded by Shred-It of Hampton, 9 a.m.-noon, free of charge with a donation of two canned goods to the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula. Foodbank volunteers will be available to assist. Each person may bring up to three boxes or brown paper bags full. |

The panel discussion is 1-4:30 p.m. It includes presentations by Dr. Siva Vaidhyanathan, University of Virginia professor and author of the new book, The Googlization of Everything (And Why We Should Worry); Carolyn Caywood, a librarian and privacy expert who has helped organizations address privacy issues, including Virginia Beach’s face-recognition cameras; and the Newport News Sheriff’s Office. This event is free and open to the public. No registration required. |
