Black History Month

Celebrate Black History Month

February is Black History Month and the Newport News Public Library System is celebrating with activities throughout the month. You can also learn more about African-American history with African American History and Culture Online.

Winter Reading Program

Snuggle With a Book

Children ages 0-5 can join the Winter Reading Program at the Grissom, Main Street, and Pearl Bailey Libraries. This new program will last all month and encourages children and their families to ready daily. More information and incentives are available at each of the libraries.

Learn Mango Languages

Learn a Foreign Language

Want to learn a foreign language? The Library System now offers Mango Basic, which is available in 22 languages, including French, German, Farsi, Hebrew, Hindi, Korean, and more, in addition to 14 English as a Second Language programs. The program is easy to use and only takes two to five hours to complete.

Tax Form Donate Your Tax Refund

Your tax refund can help the Newport News Public Library System continue to provide all of its services free of charge. Learn more about donating your tax refund to the Newport News Public Library System Foundation or the Friends of the Newport News Public Library System. 
Girls with Laptop Learning on Laptops

Laptops are now available to checkout for homework use. Children and teens, ages 8-17, can checkout a laptop at the Grissom, Main Street, and Pearl Bailey Libraries. Each library has 20 laptops, they are available during specific time periods, and may only be used in the library.
Booksale Donations Needed

The Friends of the Newport News Public Library are looking for a few good used books!  Surplus books, Cds, videos and DVDs that are donated to the Newport News Public Library System are passed on to the Friends for their bookstore and booksales.  Funds raised by the Friends are used to help provide programs and services at the Bailey, Grissom, Main Street and West Avenue Libraries. Donations are accepted at all libraries.
