Tax Relief for the Elderly and Disabled
Tax relief for the elderly and disabled provides relief from paying real estate taxes. You may be granted full relief or partial relief, depending upon your income.
Effective April 1, 2008 the Real Estate Tax Relief program has been transferred from the Department of Human Services to the Commissioner of the Revenue. If you are 65 years of age or older, or permanently and totally disabled, you may qualify for tax relief for your December 2009 and June 2010 real estate tax bills. Applications to apply for tax relief will be mailed January 1, 2009. The Commissioner of Revenue will accept applications for tax relief from April 1, 2009 through August 31, 2009.
