The Department of Human Services is responsible for providing services to elderly and/or incapacitated adults to prevent abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation. Protective Service consists of investigating complaints, assessing services needs, and arranging for services. Sometimes elderly and/or incapacitated adults are unable to take care of themselves or their personal business, often due to ill health and need some help or assistance. If you want to discuss a situation about someone you know or you have knowledge of a situation, you can file a report/complaint by calling the local Adult Protective Services hotline (757)926-6329 Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM or call the State Hotline at 1-888-832-3858.
