Tuition Reimbursement Summary

A summary of the employee benefits related to tuition reimbursement.

The City encourages employees to further their education to improve job skills and to enhance opportunities for advancement. Regular, full-time employees are eligible to receive tuition reimbursement for courses after the employee has successfully completed six months of employment. A tuition reimbursement application must be completed then approved by the employee's immediate supervisor and department head prior to enrollment or registration for the course.

The course must:
  • Directly relate to the employee's current job.
  • Be required to fulfill specific requirements for a degree related to the employee's current job.
  • Increase the employee’s knowledge, skills and abilities relative to their current job.
  • Enhance the employee's advancement opportunities with the City.

Other provisions, requirements and limitations are specified in City policy.

Employees will be reimbursed for 100% of tuition for approved courses, provided courses are taken at a state supported college or university and the employee completes the course with a grade of C or better (or passing for pass/fail courses). Courses taken at other institutions may be reimbursed not to exceed the state college rate.
