Funeral Leave and Voting Summary
A summary of employee benefits related to funeral leave and voting.
FUNERAL LEAVE
The City provides funeral leave with pay to regular, full-time employees in the event of a death in the employee's immediate family. Immediate family, for purposes of this policy, is defined as spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, and grandchild, including step, foster and in-law relationships for those listed. Immediate family also includes any member of the employee's immediate household and any person for whom the employee or the employee's spouse has the primary care responsibility.
Funeral leave is normally granted for up to three (3) working days, but may be extended to a maximum of five (5) working days in certain circumstances at the discretion of the department head. For employees assigned to schedules other than a 5 day work week, funeral leave may be granted for a maximum of 5 working days or the number of working days in one week, whichever is less.
The relationship and the responsibilities of the employee, as well as the distance to be traveled, will be considered in determining the appropriate amount of leave approved by the supervisor. If you require funeral leave, you must contact your supervisor or other person designated by your department as soon as possible. Proof of death may be required.
VOTING
Voting on an election day should be conducted during non-working hours. However, if an employee's supervisor believes that an employee is restricted from exercising his/her right to vote because of his/her work schedule, the employee may be allowed to vote during regular work hours without loss of pay. This policy applies only to general elections or referendums.
