Fire Station Tours
Newport News Fire Department: Fire Station Tours
Come Visit Us! Citizens can arrange a tour of any of our ten fire stations.
Scheduling: Please call the Fire Department's Public Education and Relations Bureau at (757) 926-8404 at least two (2) weeks in advance to schedule a tour of a fire station. Tours must be pre-arranged and dates approved.
Number of People: Your group can be as small as one family or as large as thirty people. Large groups may be divided into smaller groups to tour the station. You must provide adequate number of chaperones to maintain control of your group. We suggest one adult chaperone for every six children.
Age Level: Ages 3 and above. Length of Tour: Approximately 45 minutes.
Times Available: Generally any day between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Evening hours are also available upon request. Please understand that even with a scheduled tour, the possibility exists that the crew could all be called out on an emergency and the station closed either before your arrival or during your tour. The Public Education and Relations Bureau will be happy to reschedule your tour if necessary.
Preparation: Since our station personnel are in service during tours, please prepare the children that there will be loud noises and equipment should not be touched. The fire engines and medic units may have to respond to emergencies during your visit. It is important for everyone's safety to keep all children controlled throughout the tour.
