Proper Restraints Save Lives

Car crashes remain the leading cause of death for children ages 3-14. Most of these deaths occurred when children were not properly restrained.
The Newport News Fire Department’s Child Safety Seat Installation Program is offered as a free service for our Citizens. Some of our firefighter/medics have been trained to assist parents in properly installing a child safety seat. Please call (757) 926-8404 to schedule an appointment to receive assistance in properly installing your child’s safety seat. The technicians are usually available Monday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p. m. Please bring the following items with you:
- Child Safety Seat and manufacturer’s instructions
- Car owner’s manual
- Pool noodle, car seat locking clip (helpful in tightly securing car seats)
- Please bring your child to the appointment so the technician can check the child's fit in the car seat.
*Please note that in the event of an emergency call, the technician may not be able to honor your appointment.
