Conditional Job Offer
Newport News Fire Department Recruitment - Information on a Conditional Job Offer

Job offers are conditioned upon satisfactory results from the following essential elements:
All job offers are conditioned upon successful completion of a stringent medical evaluation to include verification of required vaccinations and a verified negative Controlled Substances Test arranged by the City prior to beginning work. The medical evaluation will determine if the applicant is medically capable of performing the essential functions of the job.
As a condition of employment, you will be required to sign an acknowledgment that you are using no form of tobacco products as of the date of employment, and that you will continue to refrain from the use of any tobacco products - either on or off duty - while employed by the City.
As a condition of employment, you will be required to sign a reimbursement contract with the City acknowledging the expense the citizens of Newport News are, in good faith, outlaying toward your formal training, and agreeing to repay these costs should you leave City Fire Department employment, either by voluntary resignation or by termination based on inappropriate conduct, after 2 years from completion of EMT-I and TRFA certifications.
If it is determined that a significant amount of time has transpired between the initial submission of your DMV record and the conditional job offer, you may be required to submit an updated DMV record. The updated DMV record must meet the requirements set forth in the position qualifications.
As a condition of your job, you will sign an Authorization for the Release of Information form so that the City may conduct a criminal history background investigation. The background investigation includes a general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and sex offender registry check. Nondisclosure of criminal convictions may be grounds for disqualification from consideration.
