Newport News Fire Department Achieves Accredited Agency Status
The Newport News Fire Department has achieved Accredited Agency status by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI). The award was presented at the Center for Public Safety Excellence Awards Ceremony on August 14th, 2008 in Denver, Colorado.Newport News Fire Department

To appropriately respond to any situation that may threaten life or property, while continually advancing community-wide education, prevention and preparedness.
The Newport News Fire Department employs 377 firefighters and civilian personnel who staff ten Fire Stations, Command, Logistics Bureau, Apparatus Maintenance Division, Public Relations and Education Bureau, Fire Marshal's Office, and Training Bureau. The responding crews typically handle in excess of 30,000 emergency and non-emergency responses annually.
In addition to emergency responses, fire station personnel provide a variety of community services such as safety seat inspections, blood pressure checks, free smoke detector installations and station tours for citizens and visitors on a daily basis. The Fire Department has mutual aid agreements with Northrop Grumman Corporation, Fort Eustis and surrounding jurisdictional Fire Departments. The Department also responds to and supports potential emergencies at the Newport News-Williamsburg International Airport.
