Description
This is a proposed new four-lane divided roadway beginning at the intersection of Warwick Boulevard and Atkinson Boulevard extending eastward over the CSX railroad, I-64 and intersecting with Jefferson Avenue.  An interstate interchange is anticipated further in the future.  The City has acquired much of the proposed right-of-way but there will be some additional acquisition.  Most of the right-of-way will have limited access.

When constructed, the roadway will be named Atkinson Boulevard.

Status:  In preliminary design by VDOT.  The Location Public Hearing was held on Thursday, November 15, 2007, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, at Mary Passage Middle School, 400 Atkinson Way, Newport News, VA.  On April 17, 2008 the Commonwealth Transportation Board approved the alignment as shown at the Location Public Hearing.  To view the VDOT map, use this link: Atkinson Boulevard.
