The Newport News Transportation Safety Commission is charged with making recommendations to the City Council relative to the formulation of a transportation safety program for the City, periodically reviewing the operation and effectiveness of the program and recommending adjustments as required.

The Commission evaluates all aspects of transportation safety to include motor vehicles, trains, vessels, aircraft and pedestrians.
