The Newport News Transportation Safety Commission is charged with making recommendations to the City Council relative to the formulation of a transportation safety program for the City, periodically reviewing the operation and effectiveness of the program and recommending adjustments as required.
The Commission evaluates all aspects of transportation safety to include motor vehicles, trains, vessels, aircraft and pedestrians. During this calendar year, the Commission will:
- Update the Commission's web page to include public feedback forum and public relations sections.
- Develop an "Incident Management Spot".
- Expansion of Commission participation to include invitations to transportation specialists from HRT, CSX, DMV and NNPD Motor Carrier Division. Participates are non-voting members used to provide the best information possible to Commissioner, thus enabling them to make the most prudent recommendations to City Council.
- Attend transportation related conferences and submit recommended legislative initiatives to the City Council for consideration by the General Assembly.
