Architectural Services
Architectural Field Engineer: Mike F. Griffin, CIE
The Architectural Services Division accomplishes design, administration, inspection and quality control services related to programmed and non-programmed architectural projects in the Public Buildings category of the City Capital Improvements Plan (CIP). This Division performs other architectural initiatives as directed by management. In addition, this Division also administers the City Asbestos and Lead Management Programs, to include surveying City-owned and leased buildings for asbestos and lead, and providing the same service to other agencies (such as Public Utilities and Newport News Redevelopment & Housing Authority); develops management plans for dealing with asbestos and lead containing materials and performs air monitoring and takes air/bulk samples for analysis; administers demolition projects, which entails performance of site environmental assessments, development of project specifications , inspection of project activities, etc., for the Industrial Development Authority (IDA), Economic Developement Authority (EDA), Newport News Redevelopment & Housing Authority, the Department of Codes Compliance, Stormwater Management Division of Engineering and other departments, as requested; manages the Indoor Environmental Assessment Program (IEA) for City-owned and leased buildings, conducts IEA investigations and makes recommendations for remedial actions.
