Engineering Administration
The Engineering Administration Division provides management oversight of all assigned divisions, coordinates VDOT projects, administers the plans review and approval process of private development to ensure compliance with Newport News City Code provisions, ordinances and the comprehensive plan as well as approved design criteria and construction standards; chairs the weekly Site Plan Review Committee meetings; prepares technical and managerial reports and other correspondence encompassing a wide range of subjects; provides administrative guidance and support for all department functions; coordinates personnel, operating budget logistics and activities; arranges department contacts with other City departments and appointed officials, the private sector, and state and federal agencies. This Division also accomplishes activities related to issuing various engineering permits, collecting appropriate revenues, and provides research and fees-collection services related to sanitary sewer connections, and administers the department Imaging System for the storage/retrieval of electronic files related to engineering technical and administrative documents.
