The Framework for the Future is the City's comprehensive plan that serves as a general guide for the growth and development of Newport News for the next 20 years. Initially developed in 1993, the plan is updated regularly and the draft of the latest version is now available online for review and comment. The Framework for the Future 2030 was prepared over a three year period by five citizen task forces that were coordinated and led by an oversight committee. |

The Department of Development and the U.S. Small Business Administration are offering a series of free business workshops every Thursday evening in August. All seminars will be held from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Main Street Library. Topics include business loans, how to compete for federal and state contracts, financial recordkeeping, business insurance, and e-Commerce. |
Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism will present the second season of the Family Films by the Fountain free film series at City Center at Oyster Point on Saturday evenings in August. Each evening will begin at 7:00 p.m. with free film-themed fun featuring games, crafts, entertainment, and give–a–ways based on the theme of that evening's film. The movies will begin at twilight, around 8:30 p.m. Films include: August 2 — Madagascar (PG); August 9 — Charlotte's Web (G); August 16 — The Last Mimzy (PG); and August 23 — Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971, G). Food vendor ($) on site. Free admission, free parking. |
