FY 2011 Budget Information

Information of the FY 2011 operating budget

UPDATE:  On Tuesday, May 11, Newport News City Council adopted the FY 2011 Operating Budget, which will run from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011. The final adopted budget will be available online in the coming weeks. The major changes between the City Manager’s recommended budget and the adopted budget include:

-- The curbside loose leaf collection program was restored for at least one more year;
-- Funding was reinstated for the State Income Tax function in the Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office;
-- Funding was added for summer youth employment opportunities;
-- There was an increase in the cash capital funding; and
-- The adopted water rate increase was not a great as was recommended and the summer conservation rate will not increase.


City Manager Neil Morgan presented his Recommended Operating Budget for FY 2011, which runs from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011, to City Council on Tuesday, March 23. Below is some information that may be helpful in understanding the budget process and the situation the City of Newport News is facing as City Manager Morgan proposes his FY 2011 Recommended Operating Budget.
