TO: The Honorable City Council

SUBJECT: Southeast Community Redevelopment Update
At your September 28, 2010 Work Session, I plan to make a presentation updating you on Southeast Community Redevelopment initiatives. This presentation is a follow-up to my presentation at your November 10, 2009 Work Session. At that time, we discussed focusing our limited available resources on the Jefferson Avenue Corridor in order to create visible progress in the near term, while setting the stage for other long term redevelopment work in the future.
Subsequent activities have been consistent with the direction Council provided last fall through appropriation of funds and CIP approval, and have been guided by the Jefferson Avenue Corridor Study, which Council adopted September 8, 2009. Staff has made significant progress on these initiatives and I look forward to reporting on what has been accomplished to date, as well as current and ongoing efforts. At the end of open session, I would ask that we go into closed session to discuss the status of negotiations of certain public and private properties that may be impacted by our focus on the Jefferson Avenue Corridor.
It is my hope that as a result of the Work Session, Council will provide staff with further guidance on continuing our redevelopment strategy so that we have a clear understanding of how to proceed on these specific initiatives in the coming months.
