Department Overview Randy W. Hildebrandt

The City Manager's Office provides leadership and administration of the day to day operations of the City of Newport News. Working closely with the City Council and citizens, the Office ensures that quality services and programs are available to meet the needs of our citizens and the business community.  With a population of over 180,000 residents plus 3,500 businesses, City Manager Randy W. Hildebrandt oversees the City's operations with more than 3,600 employees and an annual operating budget of $746 million.

Newport News Named one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People

Newport News has been named a third-time winner in a national competition to identify the 100 Best Communities for Young People. The 100 Best competition, organized by America’s Promise, honors communities for their commitment to providing healthy, safe and caring environments for young people. Hundreds of communities from all 50 states took part in the competition.
