Neighborhood Relations
A Message from the City Manager
Oftentimes universities and the communities in which they reside arrive at their local “town and gown” relationships in much the same way that motorists arrive at a four-way stop. The efforts often involve everything from courteous consideration to harsh gestures and language. However, with every new “four-way” encounter comes opportunities to develop positive relationships and a chance to bridge the gap between university and its surrounding community.
As a City of Opportunity, and one that houses a growing university, we take pride in our diverse community and the opportunities available for all of our residents, both permanent and those visiting, to live, work and get an education.
To promote harmonious relationships with the citizens who reside in the neighborhoods surrounding Christopher Newport University, I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the city resources that are available to you to address the various concerns that arise in an incredibly diverse community such as ours.
