Voter Registration
A description of the Voter registration process relating to City Council
To vote in Virginia, you must be a United States citizen, a resident of Virginia, 18 years old by election day, and registered to vote. Voting registration laws are uniform throughout the state. An absentee ballot may be available prior to each election for those who will be out of the area on election day.
Citizens may obtain a voter registration application or request an absentee ballot by calling the Voter Registrar’s Office at 926-8683 or by visiting the office on the 6th floor in City Hall. Citizens may also register to vote at Newport News public libraries and various other locations.
