7. Citizen Comments on Matters Germane to the Business of City Council

J. Procyson - Gave City Council suggestion on City spending and obligations by reviewing travel, training and meeting expenses for City Council and Administration; Contractual Services and Consultants and the Pension Fund.

S. Meltzer - Invited City Council to the Hidenwood Recreation Association's 4th Annual Community Festival on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 4 p.m.

C. Hogge - Spoke in support of the Deep Creek Pier.

8. New Business

    City Manager - Reminded public of Halloween regulations - children ages 12 and under/7th grade with parent(s) or guardian; activities cease at 8 p.m. Deep Creek Pier report confirmed no legal obligation for replacement; will use the Menchville side of the Harbor for watermen and have no right to use eminent domain to acquire property adjacent to the pier.  City Council agreed to not pursue replacement of the pier. Reminded citizens of the November 6, 2008 City Council meeting.

    Frank - Wished Dr. Woodbury a speedy recovery as well; informed public of her fall while on City business.

    McMillan - Thanked Dr. Woodbury for providing her with the adventure of a lifetime; thanked residents for coming to the recently held Town Hall meeting.

Meeting Times: The Newport News City Council regularly meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month to take official action on matters brought before it. Council meetings are held in the City Council Chambers located behind City Hall at 2400 Washington Avenue, unless otherwise noted.

Work Sessions for City Council are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month prior to the regular City Council meeting in the City Council Conference Room on the 10th floor of City Hall at 2400 Washington Avenue, unless otherwise noted.
