10.    Citizen Comments on Matters Germane to the Business of City Council

C. Hogge - Noted that she has only received a portion of the City records that she previously requested regarding the former Deep Creek Pier property.

I. Edwards - Apologized for her absence at a recent ceremony in which she was honored.

C. Nunnally - Expressed her concern about what she feels are high property taxes.  Requested funding reduction plans similar to those recently announced by the Governor. Suggested a more transparent City budget in the future.

T. Terry - Concerned about elevator violations in Newport Towers.  Requested inspection records.

C. Powell - Provided historic information on the former Deep Creek Pier for the new Council members.

J. Gergely - Commented on Work Session staff presentation on the Oyster Point Transportation Study. Suggested further data analysis.

J. Procyson - Commented on reduced water usage that is projected for the King William Reservoir. Suggested water conservation and other measures rather than continue with the reservoir project.

11.    New Business and Councilmember Comments

City Manager - Presented resolution to ratify the declaration of a local state of emergency at 12 noon on Friday, September 5, 2008 for Tropical Storm Hanna. State of Emergency for Tropical Storm Hanna

Woodbury - Thanked attendees at City Council meeting.  Thanked City Council for floral arrangement for her husband.  Congratulated Newport News Public Schools on this year's retention of teachers. Congratulated a constituent on his 100th birthday.

McMillan - Noted that the Septmebr issue of Virginia Wildlife contains photos of Newport News residents who particpate in the naturalist program.

Scott - Noted September 20, 2008 is Denbigh Day. Noted September 22 is the North District Town Hall Meeting. Noted October 4 is the Food Drive for the Foodbank.

Council meetings are held in the City Council Chambers located behind City Hall at 2400 Washington Avenue, unless otherwise noted.

Work Sessions for City Council are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month prior to the regular City Council meeting in the City Council Conference Room on the 10th floor of City Hall at 2400 Washington Avenue, unless otherwise noted.
