USS Newport News Liaison Committee

A description of the USS Newport News Liaison Committee

Purpose

The Committee liaisons with the Commanding Officer and the crew of the USS Newport News, and is responsible for activities which will ensure a continuous interest in and relationship with the ship, its crew, and the City. It also arranges appropriate recognition and liaison activities, to raise funds, and to support a continuing relationship between the USS Newport News and the City of Newport News.

Membership

Voting Members:
1 member representing financial community
1 member representing professional management community
1 member having sea-service background (submarines)
1 member representing shipbuilding industry
3 members citizenry at-large
Representatives appointed by City Manager and the Superintendent of Schools to serve as nonvoting ex-officio members
Ship's ombudsman (non-voting)

Term of Appointment

4 members serve four year terms; 3 members serve three year terms

Meeting Date

The Committee meets on the fourth Monday of every month at 6:00 p.m. at the Brittingham-Midtown Community Center.
