A description of the Newport News Human Rights Commission.

Purpose

Safeguard all individuals within the City from unlawful discrimination; preserve the public safety, health and general welfare; further the interests, rights and privileges of individuals within the City; and protect citizens of the City against unfounded charges of unlawful discrimination.

Membership

9 - General Public Representatives
(Initially, the seven incumbent members of the Newport News Community Relations Committee and two additional members to be appointed by Council: one for a term expiring September 1, 1991, and one for a term expiring on September 1, 1990.)

Term of Office

Two Consecutive Four Year Terms of Office

Meetings

Meets the third Wednesday of every month, at 12:30 p.m.
Meetings last approximately 1½ - 2 hours.
