Newport News Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission

Purpose

    (i) To create an awareness of Newport News' involvement and participation in the Civil War; (ii) to recognize and recommend to the City Manager for implementation, as appropriate, related tourism, educational and economic opportunities and benefits (as well as, to be able to capitalzie on marketing and other programs offered by the State that could prove to be directly beneficial to our city); (iii) to be advisory in nature and to recommend to the City Manager programs, events and/or actions that would enhance Newport News' recognition of its Civil War sites and events. 

Qualifications

  •  Applicants must reside in Newport News.
  •  Expertise/interest in the Peninsula's Civil War.

Meeting Date/Time

     A minimum of quarterly meetings will be held and could become monthly meetings as the Commemoration approaches.  First meeting will be held in June/July 2009.
