Newport News Arts Commission
A description of the Newport News Arts Commission
Purpose
The Newport News Arts Commission(NNAC) provides support for the arts and cultural activities within the City of Newport News and activities within Greater Hampton Roads that serve the City's residents. This support takes the form of General Operating Support Grants and Special Project Grants. The NNAC encourages the development of small community groups and special activities within the City by annually awarding a limited number of Challenge Grants (maximum of $500). The NNAC annually forwards funding recommendations to the City Council following the conclusion of the grant application process.
As an arts advocate, the NNAC promotes the arts in education by annually presenting the NNAC Science Fair Awards at both the City and regional science fairs. The NNAC publishes and distributes an arts brochure featuring the City's arts corridor. Each year the NNAC produces Jubilee on the James, a festival of the visual and performing arts, and annually supports Arts Advocacy Day at the Virginia General Assembly.
