All persons entering the Courthouse are required to pass through a metal detector and are subject to search of their person and belongings. With the exception of authorized law enforcement officers, the carrying of guns, knives (including box cutters), or other weapons is strictly prohibited in the Courthouse. In addition, the following items are prohibited in the Courthouse:

• cameras
• cell phones
  • Laptop computers are only allowed in the Courthouse if you are doing research in the Clerk's Office, or as authorized by a Judge. Pagers are allowed, but only if set to vibrate or turned off.
  • Cell Phones Additional Information: Authorized title searchers (identified by a Newport News Circuit Court copy card) may use their cell phones on the 1st floor only. There is no provision for "checking" your cell phone at the entrance and picking it up later.

• food/drinks
• pets
• radios
• recording devices of any type (including tape recorders and CD players)
• stereo face plates
• stun guns
• video games
