The Newport News Department of Adult Corrections is a minimum security correctional facility located in the Denbigh Section of Newport News. Built in 1917, the facility can house approximately 262 inmates.

There are two main divisions within the department, each serving a variety of functions. The Road Services Division uses inmate labor to provide a number of services to the City of Newport News, including mowing operations of all main city streets, median strips, and city-owned lots. They are responsible for graffiti removal and assisting city departments with special projects such as construction, renovation, moving furniture, debris cleanup, and other cost-effective services. The Detention Division provides for the security and safety of all inmates, and offers a variety of programs which give inmates the opportunity for an easier transition back into society upon their release.
